You Were Born Muslim

All praise is due to Allah, His commendations and peace be upon the soul of our noble messenger, his household and companions and those who follow his path till the day of that all will be in loss except those who are free from polytheism and disbelief.

You Were Born Muslim

Allah the Most High created mankind and created in him the natural instinct that acknowledges the worship of a single and supreme Deity. The human soul if left to its natural instinct will worship Allaah alone not associating partners with him, but it deviates and becomes corrupted by what the shayaatin (devils) among the jinn and human adorn for it by way of deception.

So, Islamic monotheism is already situated in the natural instinct. Polytheism and disbelief are foreign to the human instinct, they are intruders upon the natural instinct of worshipping one supreme Creator, Provider and Guardian.

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

And (remember) when your Lord brought forth from the children of Adam. From their loins, their seed and made them testify as to themselves (saying): “Am I not your Lord?” they said: “yes! We testify”. Lest you should say on the day of resurrection: “Verily, we have been unaware of this”

(al’Araf: 172)

The meaning of the ‘covenant’ in the above verse is the natural instinct that Allah created with every soul with which it naturally acknowledges that it should not worship any other deity except its One and only Creator, Provider and Guardian.[1]

What explains this verse perfectly is the hadith[2] of the messenger of Allah (commendations and peace of Allaah be upon him):

“Every child is born on al-Fitra and then his parents Judaize him or Christianize him or make him a Magian, (just) as an animal produces a perfect offspring, do you see any part of its body deformed?”

Then Abu Hurairah said:  recite if you wish

(…Allah’s Fitra with which He has created mankind, no change let there be in the khal-illah (ie the religion of Allah Islamic monotheism)[3]

The explanation of the word fitra as given in An-Nihaayah[4]:

Meaning that he is born on a type of (natural) disposition and instinct prepared to accept the (true) religion, so if it was left to it (the fitra) it would remain on it (i.e. pure monotheism) and wouldn’t leave it for another… [5]

Therefore the monotheistic creed of Islam is readily understood by the soul without any complications unlike the false and innovated creeds which are complex to apprehend and full of many contradictions.

All praise is due to Allah who has guided us to His straight path, we ask Him, to guard us on it till we meet Him.
